The University of Chicago’s Research in the Biological Sciences program is a four-week intense pre-college summer program that introduces students to a range of research methodologies in molecular biology, microbiology, and cellular biology. Although some lectures are included in the curriculum to offer context and introduce interesting new topics, the whole program concentrates around lab time and projects. Each course concludes with students presenting the findings of their own project.
Current high school sophomores and juniors are eligible. Students must have completed one year of high school biology prior to beginning the program. This is the most challenging of the pre-college Biology programs, requiring students to have a demonstrated interest for science as well as outstanding success in high school biology, arithmetic, and chemistry (honors or advanced level preferred if available).
This is a for-credit course, offering 200 UChicago units, which is equivalent to 2 full-time courses.
