The purpose of the Illinois Institute of Technology Experiment in Architecture is to educate students about the study and profession of architecture and to help participants make an educated decision about continuing an architectural education and career.
“Architecture Experiment”
Experiment in Architecture is a two-week workshop aimed to expose high school students to the architectural profession. Students learn to interpret problems and restrictions as opportunities and benefits by shedding focus on the rigorous and inventive nature of the profession.
Students will be engaged in design-oriented thinking through iterative activities and informative lectures that teach them to architectural words, concepts, and modes of visual representation — all while working towards a final project. Students will participate in daily talks with practitioners and academics, participate in design charrettes using hand drawing and 2D/3D modeling software, and be exposed to design critiques through formal evaluations.
The program will raise knowledge of the various job options open to architects. Students will create portfolio-worthy work.
A Summer Program for Students in High School:
Students will travel Chicago, complete a series of design projects, and hear IIT faculty lectures. The program’s goal is to educate students about the study and practice of architecture, allowing them to make an educated decision about continuing an architectural education and profession. Individuals interested in pursuing a career in the design and construction industries are urged to attend.
Experiment in Architecture is hosted on the historic Main Campus of Illinois Institute of Technology.
