Since 2011, Boston Leadership Institute (BLI) has been providing an array of unique, engaging, valuable, and constantly evolving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs for teens, as well as a variety of pre-high school programs for ambitious adolescents, too.
Both the in-person and remote programs provide students hands-on lab experience rarely offered in a classroom setting, and the diverse subject offerings are taught by highly qualified teachers and professors from the Boston area. Subject areas covered are constantly expanding, but so far cover Medicine, Engineering, Coding, Robotics, Science at large, Finance, Investing, and Business.
Further, BLI facilitates hands-on, competitive admissions programs (including Biotech Research, Biomedical and Surgical Research, and Epidemics, Outbreaks, & Contagion), which provide impressive standout experiences for college resumes, school recommendation letters, and college admissions essays.
Other returning best-sellers include:
- Biotech Research: In this is competitive-admissions research program, students are led by an instructor with a Ph.D. of Genetics from Tufts School of Medicine to complete individual research projects surrounding genetic diseases of their choice. The program culminates in student presentations, an official ceremony, and a certificate from the Boston Leadership Institute. For students participating remotely, lab supplies will be mailed directly to students’ houses, giving them an advanced-level hands-on experience, even from home.
- Finance & Portfolio Management: Students interested in finance and investing may be eager to take part in this Finance & Portfolio Management course, led by a veteran Fidelity Analyst to introduce the stock market to teens in an interactive, engaging medium. Students will get to make short-term and long-term revenue projections, examine companies’ pipelines (researching future planned product launches and expansion opportunities and their impact on investment decisions), and evaluate customer loyalty. Students will also learn how to identify a healthy market, strong versus weak company management, and expected stock performance based on a wholistic valuation to determine expected return on investments.Students are split into groups, in which each member will take a rotating turn as the Portfolio Manager, while the rest act as Senior Analysts, developing, pitching, and recommending stocks to the Manager, who makes the final selection decision. The team ultimately unites to assess if the proposed portfolio is balanced. The process will be repeated for four different funds, and students will be able to track their “investments” over the duration of the program, assessing progress and adjusting their portfolio throughout.
- Pre-Med Task Force: The Pre-Med Task Force is an innovative remote program, in which students complete a series of projects aimed at making a difference through innovation, research, and community service. Students are given a unique opportunity to learn about, and attempt to help combat, one of the most challenging healthcare issues of our time, touching on many aspects of STEM education throughout.
